8:45 a.m.The Future Faces of Philanthropy

    • Dr. Luz D. Randolph, USF Foundation

America is in the midst of a cultural shift and so is philanthropy. Philanthropy as we know it is no longer the same. There is a hasty increase in available data as well as in the tools which analyze and interpret such data. There is new fundraising technology and an increase in the diversity of our donors. Are our current fundraising efforts aligned with the changes? Are we, as an organization, speaking the language of our future donors? Do we have the cultural competency to reach all who might support nonprofits?  This presentation will focus in ways that your organization can foster a culture of diverse philanthropy.

Fundraising Ethics: Are You Playing a Game of Jeopardy With Your Organization's Reputation?

Of course, you consider yourself an ethical person and one who would certainly never compromise your organization, but what about other people and situations we encounter in our fundraising work?  How well can you identify and manage ethical dilemmas, especially those "gray zones" where a clear response is not easily apparent?  This month's meeting will feature an informative and interactive program -- we will be playing a game of Jeopardy! -- which will help you recognize and resolve ethical issues that can arise at any time.

    Learning objectives:

    • Review the elements of the AFP Code of Ethical Standards.

    • Discuss a framework for recognizing and resolving ethical issues.

Our presenters are Debbie Swink, Major Gifts Officer at Stetson University College of Law; and Susan Lane, Development Officer at Stetson University College of Law.  Both of these women have extensive experience in fundraising in various organizations.  Their bios can be found on the college's website at:  https://www.stetson.edu/law/alumni/home/staff.php.

    ABOUT FLORIDA CRAFTART

Founded in 1951, Florida CraftArt helps advance, mentors and supports Florida’s artists and is the only statewide nonprofit representing Florida’s fine craft artists.

It is a dynamic, nonprofit organization that has been at the center of St. Petersburg’s artistic renaissance. Located at 5th and Central, visitors discover original fine craft, such as handmade jewelry, glass, ceramics, wood and fiber. More than 250 of Florida’s finest craft artists are showcased in the main gallery. Every artist is vetted to ensure that the handcrafted art is of the highest quality.

During the year, there are nine curated shows in the exhibition gallery that feature local, regional and national artists. Admission is free to the galleries. Educational programming includes lectures and hands-on activities and workshops for adults and children.

Florida CraftArt’s primary goal is the success of the fine craft artists of Florida, helping them develop from emerging artist to profitable professional artist. The gallery staff is invested in mentoring artists in product development, marketing, pricing and business practices.

The annual CraftArt Festival is held weekend before Thanksgiving. More than 10,000 people enjoy this free art show of hundreds of fine craft artists from around the country. During the two-day outdoor fine craft festival held in downtown St. Petersburg, emerging artists are provided with tents, marketing materials, business mentoring and photographs of their work. This opportunity has launched many of the young artists into their full-time careers.

On the second floor of Florida CraftArt’s 100-year-old building is ArtLofts, 20 artists’ studios and a meeting room called the Creative Loft. ArtLofts are open by appointment or by chance and on ArtWalk, every second Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m.
